Description

Deaf and Hard of Hearing people have trouble communicating with the rest of society. Kids are particularly disadvantaged as they have limited opportunities to engage in social life with their peers.
This project could help resolving this problem by facilitating communication between sign language users and those who do not know it.

Using UHF RFID Readers and passive Tags embedded in gloves, RSSI data can be obtained and used to recognize Sign Language gestures and translate them into Spoken Language.

Readers could be placed in vest or necklace alongside microcontroler with embedded Neural Network (Transformer model) trained to translate RSSI data obtained by Readers into Spoken Language sentences. This sentences would be played trough speaker, and heard by others.
The main task of this project is to make the device read data as quickly and precisely as possible.

The final goal is to deliver an accessible product that can be comfortably used by Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in their daily lives.
