3D printer for decentralised printing of prostheses in countries of the global south
Description
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), there are 30 million people in developing countries who need prostheses or orthoses due to accidents, diseases or war. But only 5% of these people have access to prostheses. Those affected suffer from stigmatisation, social exclusion and unemployment.
The mission of enevra is to produce 3D-printed and customised prostheses for people in countries of the global south who otherwise cannot afford them. Modern 3D printing technology makes it possible to produce aesthetic prostheses for a fraction of the normal cost and time. The production and sale by local partners is intended to create a sustainable care structure. enevra's goal is therefore to improve the quality of life of those affected by accessible prostheses.
The goal is to place another 3D printer in Uganda and empower a local partner to produce prostheses with it. To produce prostheses for forearms, sufficiently large 3D printers are required. At the same time, the quality of the printing must be such that the prostheses do not interfere when worn and look as similar as possible to a hand.
Benefits for supporters
Enthusiasm and gratitude from people who would only be able to participate in daily life to a limited extent without a prosthesis.
