Every year, thousands of tents and tons of waste are left behind at festivals across Europe. It is estimated that festivalgoers leave around 23,500 tons of waste annually, with a significant portion being single-use tents abandoned on the camping grounds. At major festivals like Glastonbury in the UK or Tomorrowland in Belgium, hundreds of tents are often left behind after the event.

These leftover tents contribute significantly to environmental pollution and pose a substantial logistical and financial problem for festival organizers. Meanwhile, many regions worldwide suffer from a lack of basic shelter. Refugee camps, crisis areas, and disaster relief zones are particularly in need of temporary housing.

Raindance aims to address this disparity while also reducing festival waste. The idea behind our project is to repurpose the fabric from abandoned tents at festivals to create stylish rain ponchos. These ponchos are offered as sustainable alternatives to cheap disposable ones through online shops and at the festivals themselves.

The proceeds from selling these ponchos will fund the collection and refurbishment of more tents, which will then be distributed to places where they are truly needed: refugee camps, crisis areas, and for disaster relief. In this way, we not only help reduce waste but also provide much-needed shelter to people in need
